Food in Brussels, Belgium
We are lucky to have relatives who live in Brussels. Over the years they have tried the patisseries and chocolates all over the city so they gave us the short course in best places to source food. We still tested it, trying Cracklain and chocolate from a host of other stores, but the recommendations below bore out.
MARKET DAY:
Wednesday at 3pm. Market MEUDON – Woluwe Saint Lambert. This was a lovely farmers’ market with excellent selections of produce, cheese, meats and more. The waffle guy we like the best is here, and it is near our favorite patisserie (described below).
Foods you want in Belgium:
You are looking for the best chocolate? Passion Chocolates. One of their locations is in the Grand Place. Another contender is L’chocolat Atelier et Boutique ( Av du Prince Heritier 55, 1200 Woluwe Saint-Lambert). This is a single shop run by one woman, and located out of the city center, so not as easy to get to as Passion for most visitors
Passion Chocolates asks if you want your selection in a box or sachet bag. In the bag you pay only for the weight of the chocolate— about .80 euros a piece. A bargain! The boxes are slightly more but travel and present better if it’s a gift.
You are looking for the best waffle?
La Galette Artisanale (he goes to Market Meudon, among other places)
You are looking for the best patisserie? Patisserie de Baere Order the Cracklain–which is a sweet, brioche-type dough with chunks of sugar mixed in and on top. All their other stuff is good too (croissants, cakes, etc). You will need to get there in the morning though for best (or any) selection.
