Cordoba
Cordoba is a short, 45 minute train ride from the Seville Santa Justa station. We went on a day trip there having made reservations at Noor restaurant for lunch with a plan to wander the city before and after lunch.
The old city of Cordoba is a 10-15 minute walk from the Cordoba train station. It’s a lovely part of town with narrow winding cobblestone streets, and is one of the few cities in Spain to have any Jewish remnants (all Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492). Several small plazas are named after Jewish sages of the middle ages and the remains of a synagogue were found and restored about 100 years ago. The Cordoba synagogue is a relatively small space but easy to tell it was once a place of worship with Hebrew inscriptions on Psalms on the plaster walls and an alcove to hold the Torah on the eastern wall.
We also visited the Mezquita/Cordoba Cathedral. It has a much different feel than the Seville Cathedral, with lower ceilings and arches, since it was originally built as a mosque.
