Tivoli Park
Tivoli Park is an enormous park about 1 km from the old town (where we were staying). Fortunately, it's easy to get there via partially pedestrian streets. The park itself is mostly dirt or gravel trails through various forest and parkland areas. There are also a few halls and mansions as well as ponds and creeks. There are even a few hills, particularly as you go further into the park. I mostly just ran randomly until I got to my halfway distance and then used google maps to help me navigate back. The park is about 5 square kilometers in size, so you can get in a fair bit of distance without backtracking.
Ljubljana Castle
I have mentioned in several running posts that most of the Central European capitals are flat. Ljubljana is flat, too. But there is one exception - the castle. I decided I wanted to do some hill work one day, and running up and down to the castle fit the bill. The castle is about 300 feet above the old town and each route is about 0.5 - 0.75 km up/down. So, you can get in a lot of elevation in a relatively short distance. I accessed the castle three different ways - two by dirt path, some stairs and switchback trails, and one via a road. The entrance points for each are marked on the map. Once you reach the castle, there is a plateau you can run across to pick up extra mileage or just enjoy some flat before running back down a hill.
